How to Blend a Masterpiece

By Caleb Trautwein

Blenders are to canvas the way fruits are to paint when it comes to making smoothies. When it comes to smoothie making, it is more of an art than a science. A recipe may seem a little bit overkill, but if you are wondering what to put in that blender that has been gathering dust in the corner of your room, here you go.

For this recipe, all you will need is a blender, a freezer, and a measuring cup.

2 fresh oranges

1 cup kale leaves (preferably stemless) and you can optionally have the leaves frozen.

1 frozen banana

½ cup frozen mango

½ cup frozen pineapple

Just add all the ingredients into the blender and blend until smooth.

Optional ingredients that might go well in this smoothie are to substitute the mango for pomegranate, though it is possible for the smoothie to be a little seedy. You can also add a ½ cup of frozen berries.

As stated at the beginning, smoothie making is more of an art than a science and you can add almost any fruit you want. Keep in mind that some fruits like apples and grapes probably need to be frozen otherwise the smoothie might end up a little foamy.

If you want to make a thicker smoothie, you can add an additional cup of ice, although you may end up needing to eat it with a spoon.

The wonderful thing about smoothies is that as the year goes on, new fruits come into season, meaning that you can always be experimenting with new flavors.
